Joe's is a NYC Institution. The Soup Dumplings are amazing!!! They come out VERY hot, so bite of the tops and let them cool for 5 minutes. Every other dish they make is A - A+, so make sure you try their Pan Fried Noodles, the Salt and Pepper Shrimp, and the Chicken with Cashews. All of the Classics are delicious, but the Soup Dumplings are my fave.

Walking today through Little Italy and Chinatown, we opted for Chinese! We stopped into Joe's Shanghai for top notch pork soup dumplings. I think there was a steam basket of these delicious little purses on every table! We ordered a pair of spring rolls that were very tasty albeit a bit greasy and pork fried rice. I like the rice, Sherry thought it bland. Service was great and extremely attentive. The restaurant was clean and pretty, with high ceilings and nice architectural touches. Give it a try, if for the soup dumplings alone!

We arrived right at opening hour and no line whatsoever. So restaurant was totally empty. However when we were leaving there was a waiting list. So tip to definitely go early. They also include service charge directly on the bill and is cash only! Ordered two xiao long baos as hubby was craving this. We ordered the crab and the pork, came with two bamboo steamers. Had the crab first and it was great. Lighter than the pork one. Definitely have to eat this while it's hot as the soup inside gets more gelatin like. Overall good xiao long baos.

This was our first visit to the Bowery location. We had our inaugural experience with soup dumplings at their Flushing location in the 1990s and were devoted customers until moving out of the area. We arrived at 11:30 and there were plenty of open tables. The decor is modern and clean. The staff were very solicitous. The food is still mind blowing. The crab meat and pork soup dumplings were off the charts. My wife found the rich broth to be too fatty, but I suffered from no such problem. We ordered Kung Pao chicken and fried rice cakes with shrimp. Both excellent. My favorite under the radar dish is minced pork, squid, dried bean curd and jalapenos. Amazing, unique flavor. We will be putting this place back in the rotation!
